UMMC Sports Palace in Verkhnyaya Pyshma hosts Sambo Сhampionship of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service
27.09.2021
Today the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service Championship (sports sambo for men and women; combat Sambo for men) has started in UMMC Sports Palace (15, Ordzhonikidze Street, Verkhnyaya Pyshma). The tournament is held from 27 to 29 September 2021.
Over 500 athletes of more than 50 teams from 48 regional offices of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) take part in the Championship. 280 men (sports sambo), 150 men (combat sambo) and 73 women are competing. On the first day, men of weight categories up to 58kg, 71kg and 88 kg step to the mat. Women of weight categories up to 50kg, 59kg and 72kg are fighting.
The competition is expected to be very strong, since many of the leading sambo wrestlers are officials of security services. Besides, the team of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service became a finalist of one of the most prestigious Russian Federation President's Cup, which is attended by the best Russian sambo wrestlers who work for security agencies. For example, Vladimir Gladkikh, 2021 European champion, and Uali Kurzhev, our participant in future World Championship in November, both representing UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma), are competing for the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Sverdlovsk region.
It should also be noted that during 15 years of the championship's existence, the employees of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Sverdlovsk region have never left the top three. At the last championship, which was held in Yekaterinburg in 2019, they took first prize.
The opening ceremony starts at 4pm local time today.
