On the first day of the All-Russian Competition "Memory" held in Еkaterinburg, Sverdlovsk sambo wrestlers won 18 medals

Today the All-Russian Competition called "Memory" intended at paying tribute to the outstanding Ural sambo wrestlers and their tutors started at "Rodina" Sports Centre in Ekaterinburg. Sergey Zyryanov, Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, and Sergey Nabokikh, Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sverdlovsk Region, opened the competition. The first day of the competition brought to the hosts, Sverdlovsk citizens, an impressive harvest of medals – eighteen at once, and seven of them were of the highest value.

Among men, the best were qualified in two weight categories - up to 98kg and over 98kg. Representatives of UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) triumphed in the weight category of up to 98 kg. Dmitry Torgashov became the winner, Ivan Nikulin got a silver medal and Sergey Kuznetsov got a bronze one. Alexander Tsiulin from Verkhnyaya Pyshma was also the strongest in the heavyweight category. In his decisive duel with Alexander Gorbal, the Kurgan Region citizen, he was still losing 1:4 just seconds before the final whistle, but just at the last moment of the meeting, he managed to make a very effective and beautiful throw of 4 points and snatched the victory, 5:4. Gleb Poznakhirko, a teammate of Tsiulin, rose to the third step of the podium. Ivan Tachkov from Ekaterinburg took one more bronze (Sambo and Judo Sports School of the Olympic Reserve and "Rodina" Sports Club).

In women's competitions, medals were awarded in all seven weight categories, and only in one of them the Sverdlovsk Region women could not reach the podium. However, in two of them our sportswomen got a complete set. In the weight category of up to 80 kg Olga Likhota won gold, Ksenia Khismatullina won silver and Ilona Osintseva won bronze (all of them represent Sambo and Judo Sports School of the Olympic Reserve and "Rodina" Sports Club, Ekaterinburg). The 80+ category was just as successful. Albina Cholombitko (Sambo and Judo Sports School of the Olympic Reserve and "Rodina" Sports Club) got a gold medal, her teammate Nadezhda Yeremeyeva got silver and Olga Mikheeva from Victoria Sports Club, Ekaterinburg, got bronze.

By the way, representatives of the Ural capital from Sambo and Judo Sports School of the Olympic Reserve and "Rodina" Sports Club distinguished themselves in other weights too. Ekaterina Khasanova (up to 50 kg), Vera Lotkova (up to 54 kg) and Yana Polyakova (up to 72 kg) became the first. Oksana Kobeleva (up to 54 kg), Svetlana Lushnikova (up to 65 kg) and Lyudmila Naletova (up to 72 kg) were the third.

In total, more than 150 participants from 17 regions of the country applied for the competition.
