Sambo Tournament P.G. Ryskin Memorial among students held in Ekaterinburg

Ural State University of Economics hosted for the third time the traditional Regional Sambo Tournament in memory of Pyotr Gerasimovich Ryskin, USSR Master of Sports. 130 full-time student athletes from 12 higher education institutions of Sverdlovsk region took a part in it. It was the first time when girls competed in the tournament.

As a result, female team of Russian State Vocational Pedagogical University won. Students of Ural State University of Law were the second, while students of Ural State University of Physical Culture were the third and sambo wrestlers of Ural State University of Economics were the fourth.

Male wrestlers of the same Russian State Vocational Pedagogical University topped the tournament. Students of Ural Law Institute of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs were second best. Male athletes from Ural State University of Law took the third place. The fourth place went to Ural State Mining University, and the fifth place shared students of Ural State University of Economics and Ural State University of Railway Transport.

The participants were welcomed at the opening ceremony by Yakov Silin, Head of Ural State University of Economics; Vladimir Cherepanov, Head of Economic and Social Policy Department of the Office of Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to Ural Federal District and Sambo Master of Sports; Ilkham Shiraliev, Director of Anti-Corruption and Control Department of Sverdlovsk region, member of the Sverdlovsk region government, Sambo Master of Sports; Olga Kotlyarova, President of the Student Sports Union of Sverdlovsk region, Honoured Master of Sports, World and European Champion, Olympic medal winner; Valery Stennikov, Merited Coach of Russia, Honoured Worker of Physical Culture, Managing Director of UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma); Alexander Kozlov, Honoured Coach of the USSR.

“I would like to thank sincerely the University administration and Yakov Petrovich Silin in person, the Sambo Federation of Sverdlovsk region, the Sports Events Centre of Sverdlovsk region, my father's colleagues and trainees as well as my friends who supported organization of this tournament. It is very important for our family! It's great that with every passing year this event is attended by more participants. This year we are welcoming girls. I’m very glad that my father's cause lives and succeeds in universities and colleges, and students can go on training this courageous national sport”, said Petr Ryskin, Sambo Master of Sports of International Class, Candidate of Sociology Sciences and Senior Tutor in Physical Education and Sport at Ural State University of Economic and Pyotr Gerasimovich Ryskin's son.
