They added ten medals to the trophy cabinet of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Sverdlovsk region
Men’s and women’s sports sambo competition came to the end at the Championship of Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, which took place in UMMC Sports Palace (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) from 27 to 29 September. On the strength of the tournament results, our athletes who represented the Sverdlovsk Region State Penitentiary Service, won total ten medals.
The men Ivan Nikulin (up to 88 kg), Vyacheslav Matveev (up to 64 kg) and Gleb Poznakhirko (up to 98 kg) won gold. Yaroslav Sandin (up to 58 kg) and Aleksandr Kulikov (over 98 kg) took silver. Ivan Panyukhin (up to 58 kg), Andrey Selivanov (up to 71 kg) and Dmitry Torgashov (up to 98 kg) won bronze.
At women's fights, Victoria Oster (up to 59 kg) took the first place. Olga Titova (up to 50 kg) won silver. Moreover, all three of our champions are the leading sambists of UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma). Just like our three bronze medalists. Aleksandr Kulikov and Olga Titova represent Ekaterinburg Sambo School. Yaroslav Sandin, a graduate of UMMC Sambo Club, now is promoting this sport in Kirovgrad local school. It should be pointed out that most of the best Russian sambo wrestlers are members of various security agencies, including the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, hence, such agency-level tournaments are as competitive as ordinary Russian championships. So, it is very prestigious to win in them.
It is fair to note that some other UMMC Sambo Club athletes won medals of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service Championship, including three gold medals, while fighting for other regional divisions. So, Vladimir Gladkikh (up to 58 kg) and Evgeny Sukhomlinov (up to 71 kg), who fought for Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for Volgograd region, became champions. And Uali Kurzhev (up to 79 kg) captured a gold prize representing the Academy of the Federal Penitentiary Service from Ryazan.
Kurzhev and Gladkikh arrived to the tournament straight from the Kstovo training camp (Nizhny Novgorod), where the main national team had been preparing for the most important start of the season - the World Championship - which would be held in November in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). As the winner of this year's Russian championship, Uali Kurzhev will go there to gain his fourth champion title.
Finally, two more UMMC sambists (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) were awarded bronze at the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service Championship. They are Egor Smertin (up to 64 kg), who represented the Federal Penitentiary Service for Perm Krai, and Ali Kurzhev (up to 79 kg), who defended the honor of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Moscow region.
Tomorrow masters of combat sambo will step to the mat of the UMMC Sports Palace.
