Куржев-Махмудов-ЧМ-2021.jpg One of our most decorated sambo athletes, a sportsman from UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) – Uali Kurzhev (up to 79kg) - has captured a title of the World Champion for the fourth time. These days, Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is hosting the premier sambo tournament across the planet. The sambo wrestler from Verkhnyaya Pyshma has been the only representative of Sverdlovsk region at the international arena.

Uali pushed his way to his another glorious victory as an acclaimed and experienced sambo practitioner. In the first round, Uali got the better of quite a tenacious and uncompromising Abdulla Abdullaev (Azerbaijan) with a score of 3:0.

Afterwards, there has been nothing to hold back Kurzhev, who got into the fight for medals. First, he defeated Nedir Allaberdyev (Turkmenistan) by a painful hold, with subsequent early submission of Alexander Koksha (Belarus).

In the final, the UMMC sambo athlete faced off against Ulugbek Rakhmonov, the Sambo Championship host wrestler. One would think that support in the stands boded the dogged resistance. However, Kurzhev took very little time to reveal his opponent’s intentions. As a result, the score stood at massive 7:1 when the final whistle blew. Only seasoned professionals can produce such a convincing win!

“Certainly, I did recognize that the pressure from local fans would have a hand, but I also had my stands of friends and clubmates”, smiles Uali. “The key was to apply a throw in the first few minutes, which I luckily managed to do. Then, I had to take the bout to the final wisely”.

“Emotions after victory are always indescribable so that you want to get carried away with them over and over again. Which is why, your motivation and yearning for win compel you to work hard and pull out all the stops in each tournament”, said already a four-time World Champion.
