The youth attend the training camp first
Sambo wrestlers from Sverdlovsk region started training vigorously for this year’s key national tournaments: the Russian youth and junior sambo tournaments and the Russian Championship, which will take place in the UMMC Palace of Sports (Verkhnyaya Pyshma). Preparation marathon will be held on 25-28 February. Historically, the backbone of our all-aged sambo teams will train in the training camp “Granatovaya bukhta” (Pomegranate cove) in the vicinity of Verkhnyaya Sysert.
The youth attended the training camp first. They will take part in the Russian Under-18 Sambo Championship, held in Kstovo (Nizhny Novgorod region) between January 31 and February 3. About 30 sambo athletes from Sverdlovsk region will be involved in training, with 20 of them participating in the Russian Championship. A total of those, attending the training camp “Granatovaya bukhta”, is approaching 50, as sportsmen from neighboring regions joined our athletes.
According to the training camp manager, Mikhail Sukhanov (head coach of UMMC Sambo Club from Verkhnyaya Pyshma), the training program appeared to be intensive: on weekdays, two a time mandatory trainings are held right on the mat; Wednesday and Saturday are designed to reduce the training load, and include physical games and evening sauna. A real day-off is only Sunday.
“During the first week, we will intensify our training load to the maximum extent, with emphasis being gradually shifted to special needs and weight management of each athlete during the other 7 days”, Sukhanov adds.
As a reminder, more than 40 sambo practitioners from Sverdlovsk region qualified for the Russian Under-18 Sambo Championship.
