13 sambo athletes from Sverdlovsk region become medalists in one of the most prestigious events in the 2021 season – Russian President’s Sambo Cup

Given that most of prominent figures of our national combat sport work in such agencies, competitions take shape of increasingly bitter and competitive fight. This year’s event is not an exception – the teams of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs made it to the final. A victory went to the latter for the number of effective technical actions, although the two teams played to a 4:4 draw. Sambo practitioners from the team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, represented by some athletes from UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) – Evgeniy Eryomin (up to 58kg) and Artur Khaptsev (98+kg) - have received the honorary award for the fourth time. Other UMMC Sambo club wrestlers – Vladimir Gladkikh (up to 58kg), Uali Kurzhev (up to 79kg) and Gleb Poznakhirko (98+kg) represented the team of the Federal Penitentiary Service took silver.
Seven more sportsmen from Verkhnyaya Pyshma – Valeriy Soronokov (up to 53kg), Ruslan Bagdasaryan (up to 64kg), Danil Ponomarenko (up to 64kg), Vladimir Balykov (up to 71kg), Stanislav Skryabin (up to 79kg), Denis Sukhanov (up to 88kg), Alsim Chernoskulov (up to 98kg) and Ivan Tachkov (98+kg) from Ekaterinburg sealed bronze as part of the team of the Russian National Guard Security Force.
Russian President’s Sambo Cup took place in the Sports Palace BASKET HALL “MEGASPORT” on June 4. Rashid Nurgaliev, the Security Council Secretary and the co-chairman of the Board of Trustees of the All-Russian Sambo Federation, opened the competitions by reading a welcome message from President Putin to the players. Vasiliy Shestakov, the President of the International Sambo Federation, and Sergey Eliseev, the President of the All-Russian Sambo Federation also delivered a welcome address.
