The third day of Russian Championship held in Verkhnyaya Pyshma at UMMC Palace of Sports turned out to be the most successful for our athletes. Olesya Posylkina, a sambist from Sambo and Judo School of Olympic Reserve, Yekaterinburg, won gold medal in U72 kg weight category, and our athlete Anton Brachev from UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) became the clear favorite in over 98 kg weight category. Together with awards, both athletes were qualified for competing at the World Championship in November. Albina Cholombitko from Ekaterinburg (over 80 kg weight category) added a bronze medal to that trophy count.

Olesya Posylkina in the final met a serious rival, Tamara Lishchenko from St. Petersburg, who easily won the bouts of her part of the tournament bracket, i.e. only early wins or painful holds. But this did not embarrass our athlete.

“- I was confident in myself, says Olesya. - I focused only on the fight, and Tamara seemed to reach the final a bit relaxed, so a couple of minutes were enough for me to take the lead. So, when I dominated 3:0, I felt that this was my lucky day, and the painful hold was as the final point.”

In the bout for the gold medal, Anton Brachev faced the determined Alexei Merzlikin from Penza, who had previously won most of his fights by painful holds. Together with his coaches, Brachev became perfectly familiar with his opponent's moves.

- The task was to avoid mat wrestling, so I tried to be in the standing position all the time", said the champion.

The plan worked one hundred per cent. In a tight and slow bout, our athlete forced his opponent to receive two warnings for passivity that gave Anton a decisive point and victory with a score 2:1.
