Ekaterina Tsybert, representative of Yekaterinburg Sambo and Judo School of Olympic Reserve and Sports Club “Rodina”, our only participant of the sambo tournament of First CIS Games held these days in Kazan, became the winner in U59 kg weight category. In the final, she defeated Azada Aymuratova from Uzbekistan. At the beginning of the bout, Ekaterina was losing 0:2, but then she pulled herself together and first performed a two-point turnover, then threw her opponent to the back by four points, followed by a submission bringing her early victory one minute before the end of the bout.

First CIS Games are currently held in Kazan from September 4 till September 11. The sambo competition took place on September 7 at the “Ak Bars” Martial Arts Palace. Fourteen medal events were competed among juniors and youth. More than 80 athletes from nine CIS countries took part in the competition. The Russian team won 9 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
