Two athletes from the Sverdlovsk region won gold medals at the Sambo World Championship held in Romania. Before the final fight one of the sambo wrestlers had his jacket torn, what has already become a good luck omen
On November 9-11 Bucharest hosts Sambo World Championship. Two athletes came to represent the Sverdlovsk region in this competition in Romania, and both of them won gold medals!
Stanislav Skryabin and Alsim Chernoskulov represent UMMC Sambo Club from Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
Skryabin performed in “up to 74 kg” weight category, and it was the first champion title in his career. Chernoskulov competed in “up to 100 kg” category and became the world champion for the sixth time, and he also became the absolute record-holder in the history of the Ural Sambo.
- Of course, we observed absolutely different victories. Stanislav is a debutant of the World Championships. He really wanted to be the first, so for him the main thing was not to be overwhelmed by emotions. I even refused to second his final fight and watched it from the stands, so as not to be an additional irritant. And Alsim is just a phenomenon. It seems that he has gained all possible titles, but it is still interesting for him to fight. So, he always finds some motivation for himself, – the head coach of the Sverdlovsk region and UMMC Sambo Club Valery Stennikov said about his trainees.
In the final Stanislav Skryabin met with the Greek athlete George Markaryan. By the middle of the fight he was losing to his opponent with a score of 0 – 3, but still managed to win. At first, Skryabin executed a two-point throw, and the key to the win was a spectacular four-point action, after which it was clear that the winner was going to be the wrestler from Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The final score, which brought him the first championship of his career, was 8 – 5.
- Frankly speaking, I didn't feel anything special at that moment. At the end of the fight I realized that my opponent was a little beat, while I was better prepared functionally. This allowed me to move into an active phase, – tells Stanislav Skryabin about his victory.
Sambo Federation also told us an interesting detail: during the semi-final Skryabin had to change his torn sambo jacket for the first time in his competition experience. It might be a good omen for our athletes, because a similar situation happened to Alsim Chernoskulov at the Russian Championship he won this year.
Chernoskulov himself in the final of this Championship had to face with his old rival from Belarus Andrey Kazusenok. This time our athlete was stronger. Leading by one point, he forced his opponent to get open and at the end of the fight made two effective throws, ending the fight with a score of 4– 1 in his favor.
- I'm not tired of competing with Andrey - on the contrary, it's always very interesting to wrestle with him. As they say: who will be slicker, – said Chernoskulov.
This spring athletes of UMMC Sambo Club from Verkhnyaya Pyshma won three gold and three silver medals at the prestigious tournament in Vladivostok. Alsim Chernoskulov and Stanislav Skryabin also won gold there.
