Biography

As Sergey Vorobyov says (based on the book “History of Sambo of Sverdlovsk region” by V. Konev), “in my childhood I understood that I could take a leap into life only through sport. Sambo was my well taken choice. Sport does not mean the success to ride on the wave of popularity, but is the ability to overcome challenges”.

In the mid-1980s, Sergey Vorobyov was fated to become the symbol of Uralmash sambo school. The year 1986 was especially successful for him, when he earned the silver at USSR Championship, won the USSR Cup and the prestigious international tournament in Kalinin (nowadays Tver). The following year he won the European Championship in Bulgaria. Thus, Vorobyov repeated the achievement of one of his mentors, Aleksandr Fedorov (1972).

Since 2018, he has been head of the Judo Federation of Sverdlovsk Region.

He graduated from the Sverdlovsk Engineering and Pedagogical Institute. Cand. Sc. (Pedagogy).
