A symbol and legend of "Dynamo" sambo club and main guardian of the glorious traditions of this club. In the 1960s, he was one of the strongest representatives of the Sverdlovsk sambo school and later became a talented teacher and mentor.
He got acquainted with sambo at the end of the 1950s while studying at the Kirov Pedagogical University and trained under the guidance of his classmate A. Sobakinsky. After serving in the army he stayed in Sverdlovsk, where he became famous as a sportsman and later as a coach.
They say that once, in 1966, during a tour in Sverdlovsk, an outstanding performing artist Leonid Utyosov, who himself used to be a wrestler in his youth, happened to be a spectator of the regional sambo championship. Utyosov was so admired by Stolbov's skills that he invited him to have a dinner at the "Big Ural" hotel and, as a result, our sambo wrestler watched Utesov’s concert given specially to him during 1.5 hour.
Anatoly Stolbov has given almost forty years to coaching in "Dynamo" sport society. During this time he trained about six thousand boys and helped many of them to find their way in life. Among his pupils are Oleg Shabashov, International Masters of Sports Vasil Miftakhov, Bakhriddin Jamolov, Oleg Nemytov, Konstantin Makhnev, Alexey Meshavkin, Vardan Arutyunyan, Arsen Temirkhanov and about 30 masters of sports.
In 1961, he graduated from the Kirov State Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of anatomy and physiology.
He was awarded the Badge of Honor "For Services in the Development of Physical Culture and Sports" (2003), the badge "Excellent Worker in the sphere of Physical Culture and Sports", a medal "80 Years of State Committee for Sports of the Russian Federation" (2003).
